The Eurasian beaver, once native but hunted to extinction in the UK, has been successfully reintroduced in several regions. Known for its dam-building behaviour, it creates wetlands that support biodiversity and improve water quality. While celebrated as a keystone species, its activity can also flood farmland and infrastructure, requiring careful management.

The testing for detection of this species is carried out via real-time PCR (qPCR), which has the greatest sensitivity and specificity of all eDNA detection methods.
