The common frog (Rana temporaria) is a widespread and familiar amphibian in the UK, found in a variety of habitats, including gardens, ponds, woodlands, and grasslands. It plays an important role in ecosystems as both predator and prey. Common frogs are easily recognised by their smooth skin, varying from green to brown, and their distinctive jumping behaviour. Despite being widespread, they face threats from habitat loss, pollution, and diseases like Chytridiomycosis.

The testing for detection of this species is carried out via real-time PCR (qPCR), which has the greatest sensitivity and specificity of all eDNA detection methods.
